On a mission to spread education and opportunity

“I was raised in two different worlds; my school years in the United States of America and my summer months between various refugee camps in Palestine and Jordan. My father was born in the Dheisheh refugee camp to my refugee grandparents, south of Bethlehem, Palestine. I cannot claim the struggles that they have endured. However, witnessing its reality for several months every few years became a part of who I am today, in character and in purpose.
That purpose is to empower society through the contribution of scholarly knowledge by learning the craft of world class research. My passion for research emanates from my fascination of entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneur would, I have found myself, by engaging in thought provoking analysis and conversations to conceptually uncover unanswered questions and ultimately innovate theories and concepts. Research allows me to explore my mental free space, to resolve dilemmas of real consequence. My aspiration is to take my passion to become a scholar in my field, and prepare myself for a career in academia at a leading global university.
A career in academia compensates me with a reward more valuable than an income. It provides me with an opportunity to benefit impoverished communities, like Dheisheh, around the world by spreading education and contributing to knowledge. In working with a leading global university, I intend to create research that offers community development in wellbeing and opportunity; I intend to lead my university in partnering with institutions in developing countries; I intend to investigate direct social issues, and apply and publish research directly to the challenges faced.
My family history provides me with a constant reminder to not claim entitlement to the life I know of comfort and opportunity. Pursuing my doctoral studies is my answer to that reminder.”
