We believe in being straightforward about data. We collect what we need to run the Service and make it useful to you. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share it only in the ways described in this policy.

1. Who we are

Tailwind Scholarships is a subscription service that provides U.S. flight students with a personalised database of aviation scholarships matched to their profile, together with deadline alerts and application support tools.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

When you create an account or use the Service, you may provide:

Profile information — your state of residence, age, gender, citizenship status, current pilot certificate, certificate being pursued, flight hours, GPA, school enrollment status, school name, military affiliation, and aviation organization memberships. This information is used to match you to relevant scholarships.
Payment information — credit or debit card details processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; Stripe handles payment processing and storage.
Communications — any messages you send us via email or contact forms

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit or use the Service, we may automatically collect:

Usage data — pages viewed, features used, time spent on the Service, referring URLs, and clickstream data
Device and browser information — browser type, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and language settings
IP address and approximate location — derived from your IP address at the country and state level
Cookies and similar technologies — as described in Section 6

We may receive information about you from third-party services you connect or use alongside Tailwind Scholarships, including:

Stripe — confirmation of payment status and subscription tier
Memberstack — authentication and account management data

3. How we use your information

We use your information for the following purposes:

Service delivery. Providing the Service — matching your profile to scholarships, generating deadline alerts, and displaying your personalized dashboard
Payments. Processing payments — charging your subscription fee and managing renewals and cancellations through Stripe
Communications. Communicating with you — sending welcome emails, monthly digest emails, deadline alerts, product updates, and responses to your enquiries
Product improvement. Improving the Service — analyzing how subscribers use Tailwind to fix bugs, improve matching accuracy, and develop new features
Marketing. Marketing — sending promotional communications about Tailwind features, offers, or relevant aviation opportunities. You may opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
Affiliates. Affiliate program management — attributing referrals to affiliate partners and calculating commissions
Legal. Legal compliance — complying with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes, and enforcing our Terms of Service
Security. Security — detecting, preventing, and responding to fraud, abuse, and other harmful activity

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

4.1 Service providers

We share information with third-party companies that help us operate the Service. These providers process your information only as directed by us and are contractually required to protect it. They include:

4.2 Affiliate partners

If you subscribe through an affiliate referral link, we share confirmation of your subscription (but not your profile data) with the referring affiliate for the purpose of calculating commission. We do not share your name, email, or profile information with affiliates.

4.3 Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tailwind Scholarships, our users, or the public.

4.4 Business transfers

If Tailwind Scholarships is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred to another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you by email and/or prominent notice on our website before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you cancel your subscription:

Your account and profile data are retained for 90 days to allow for reactivation
After 90 days, your profile data is deleted from our active systems
Email address and subscription history may be retained for up to 3 years for legal, tax, and accounting purposes
Anonymized, aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely

You may request earlier deletion of your data at any time — see Section 7.

6. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website. Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us operate the Service and understand how it is used.

6.1 Types of cookies we use

Essential cookies — required for the website to function, including authentication and session management. These cannot be disabled.
Analytics cookies — used by Google Analytics to measure traffic, page views, and user behaviour in aggregate. You can opt out via Google’s opt-out tools.
Marketing cookies — used by Facebook Pixel if we run advertising campaigns, to measure ad performance and build audiences. You can opt out via Facebook’s ad preferences.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies will not prevent you from using the Service, though some features may be affected. A cookie consent notice is displayed when you first visit tailwindscholarships.com.

7. Your rights and choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

Access. Access — you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
Correction. Correction — you may update or correct your profile information at any time from your account settings, or by contacting us
Deletion. Deletion — you may request deletion of your account and personal data. We will action this within 30 days, subject to any legal retention obligations.
Portability. Portability — you may request your profile data in a structured, machine-readable format
Marketing opt-out. Opt-out of marketing — you may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us. Note that transactional emails (receipts, deadline alerts) are part of the Service and cannot be disabled while your subscription is active.
Consent withdrawal. Withdrawal of consent — where we process your data on the basis of consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal

7.1 California residents

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, contact us at crew@tailwindscholarships.com.

7.2 New York residents

Tailwind Scholarships operates under the laws of the State of New York. If you are a New York resident, you may have additional rights under the New York SHIELD Act regarding the security of your personal information. We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature and scope of our business.

8. Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our website
Encrypted storage of passwords and sensitive credentials
Access controls limiting which team members can view personal data
Payment card data handled exclusively by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS compliant

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for users who are at least 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at crew@tailwindscholarships.com and we will delete it promptly.

Users between the ages of 13 and 17 should have the consent of a parent or guardian before using the Service. Some scholarships in our database have age requirements; we encourage younger users to involve a parent or guardian in their scholarship search.

10. Third-party links

The Service contains links to external scholarship websites and application portals operated by third parties. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit through links from Tailwind Scholarships. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and by posting a prominent notice on tailwindscholarships.com no fewer than 14 days before the changes take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy reflects the most recent revision.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you may cancel your subscription and request deletion of your data.
